Beetle’s performances are an open invitation to introspection and self-discovery. As the first notes of her acoustic guitar fill the room, time seems to take on a different rhythm... Then, her voice rises, gently drawing you into her melodic universe, where evocative lyrics intertwine with deep breaths and other enchanting sounds known only to her. Experiencing Beetle’s music live is a journey—a passage into her rich and immersive artistic world.

The Return by Beetel Miyela is a 60-minute journey that transcends the boundaries of sound and story, inviting the audience into a world where love, loss, and healing are explored through a rich tapestry of sounds, music and movement.
From the moment the performance began, it was clear that this was no ordinary show. Miyela’s musical composition was unlike anything I had ever heard. The soundscapes she crafted felt both new and deeply familiar, as if stepping into an eerie children’s story.
What stood out the most was Miyela’s incredible talent. The sounds she created left traditional singing in the dust. Miyela courageously used her whole body and breath to create the layered environment of the story she was telling. She is working with an array of skills that are not often taught, pulling from her own lived experience to create a work like The Return. The music seamlessly transitioned between moments of heartfelt loss and healing, blending the emotional nuances of each piece into a cohesive and captivating story.
The dancers, Piper Mae and Liam Linane, brought Miyela’s vocal performances to life through their otherworldly physicality, adding another layer of depth to the narrative. The ethereal costumes and intricate paper creations by Kanako Enokida, combined with Julia Beiers’ skillful bass guitar playing, added to the magic of the evening. Each element worked in harmony to enhance the beauty and power of Miyela’s storytelling.
Miyela herself proved to be a truly generous performer—there was zero ego, only a deep sense of connection with the audience. She invited us to relax, offering a chance to lie down and close our eyes if we wished, further enhancing the experience of immersion in her work.
The Return was part theatre show, part concert, part meditation and all FABULOUS. If you missed the live performance, the Return EP on Spotify offers a taste of the experience.
Audiences will rightly fawn over this show. It’s a chance to let go and be led through a warm, entranced world. In every way, The Return is magical, and I’m left wanting more. 5/5 stars.
